Conosciuto localmente come Wiesn, l’Oktoberfest di Monaco è molto più di birra, tendoni e attrazioni. Nato nel 1810 come festa bavarese, è oggi un fenomeno globale, dove tradizione, turismo e identità si incontrano.

Realizzato tra il 2019 e il 2025, il progetto segue la festa dalle tradizioni dell’apertura ai tendoni gremiti, dove sconosciuti condividono tavoli, cantano, brindano e diventano per qualche ora una piccola comunità. Dirndl e Lederhosen, un tempo simboli di appartenenza locale, sono oggi indossati da visitatori provenienti da tutto il mondo.

Tra euforia, ebbrezza ed episodi di complicità tra estranei, le fotografie raccontano cosa accade quando milioni di persone condividono gli stessi rituali e lo stesso desiderio di stare insieme. L’Oktoberfest diventa così un racconto di identità, appartenenza e connessione umana, sospeso tra tradizione ed eccesso.

Oktoberfest – Zwischen Tradition und Exzess

Das Oktoberfest, lokal auch Wiesn genannt, ist weit mehr als Bier, Festzelte und Fahrgeschäfte. 1810 als bayerisches Volksfest gegründet, ist es heute ein globales Phänomen, bei dem Tradition, Tourismus und Identität aufeinandertreffen.

Die zwischen 2019 und 2025 entstandene Serie folgt dem Fest von den traditionellen Elementen der Eröffnung bis zu den überfüllten Bierzelten, in denen Fremde Tische teilen, gemeinsam singen, anstoßen und für einige Stunden zu einer kleinen Gemeinschaft werden. Dirndl und Lederhosen, einst vor allem Zeichen lokaler Zugehörigkeit, werden heute von Besuchern aus aller Welt getragen.

Zwischen Euphorie, Trunkenheit und Momenten der Verbundenheit unter Fremden erzählen die Fotografien davon, was geschieht, wenn Millionen Menschen dieselben Rituale und denselben Wunsch nach Gemeinschaft teilen. So wird das Oktoberfest zu einer Geschichte über Identität, Zugehörigkeit und menschliche Verbindung – zwischen Tradition und Exzess.

Oktoberfest – Between Heritage and Excess

Locally known as Wiesn, Munich’s Oktoberfest is much more than beer, huge tents and fairground rides. Founded in 1810 as a Bavarian folk festival, it has become a global phenomenon where tradition, tourism and identity meet.

Photographed between 2019 and 2025, the series follows the festival from its traditional opening ceremonies to the packed beer tents, where strangers share tables, sing, raise their mugs and become, for a few hours, a small community. Dirndls and Lederhosen, once primarily symbols of local belonging, are now worn by visitors from all over the world.

Between euphoria, intoxication and moments of connection between strangers, the photographs explore what happens when millions of people share the same rituals and the same desire to celebrate together. Oktoberfest thus becomes a story about identity, belonging and human connection – suspended between heritage and excess.
